Camshaft The camshaft is located in the cylinder block. There is one camshaft to operate the intake valves and exhaust valves, and another to operate the fuel injection pump. The camshafts rotate in a certain ratio (1:1 for 2-stroke engine, 1:1/2 for 4-stroke engine) to the crankshaft via gear wheels or chain drive.
