Pressure Swing Adsorption(PSA) TechnologyA PSA system can separate the gas compounds by using the difference of adsorption force of the various chemical compounds (adsorbent) to each gas. In the gas separation process, the compressed air passes through the molecular sieve layer composed of crystals with small pores and the gases are adsorbed to the sieve by the adsorbent while the gas to be separated is freely passed through the layer.
In the PSA nitrogen generator, the moisture controlled, compressed air is charged to two or more adsorption towers packed with the adsorbent called CMS (Carbon Molecular Sieve). Then compression ?adsorption ? decompression ? purge steps are repeated to continuously produce the high purity nitrogen CMS is made of the bark of palm tree and has many pores of 4A. Since the outer diameter of the oxygen molecule is 3.8A and that of nitrogen molecule is around 4.2A, the system uses the principle of oxygen quickly being adsorbed first due to the difference in diameter. Therefore it is important to select the product that maintains a certain compression temperature and has the uniform sized pores in order to produce high purity nitrogen.
