All rotors that have a shorter axis length than their diameter or have no shaff of their own can be balanced conveniently on vertical balancing machines (e.g. grindstones, clutches, pulleys, fly-wheels and pump impellers). when choosing a vertical balancing machine, special care should be taken over the device (an adaptor or a mandrel) used to fix the rotor to the machine. it must be practical and fast to use but above all accurate. in any case, all our instruments have automatic excentricity correction systems.Vertical balancing machines can be built to correct on just one plane or on both planes.When deciding whether a piece can be balanced on just one plane or on both planes the following table can be used as a guide: it is based on the ratior between the rotor's axis length and its maximum diameter.

BALANCING MACHINE DRIVE The energy generated by the balancing machine drive is used to spin the rotor at the balancing speed, overcoming its inertia, and to counterbalance its passive resistance, both during start-up and at cycle speed.The power necessary to keep the rotor spinning at cycle speed is generally much lower than that necessary to start it up, so it may often be treated as negligible, except in the case of bladed rotors with a strong ventilating effect.For these rotors, if Ns is the power necessary to keep the rotor spinning at a service speed of ns the power necessary at the balancing speed is of the order of:

ROTOR CLAMPINGPractically all models can take the BP option, which consists of a pneumatic device that shifts an axial bar along the axis, with a mandrel to which self-centering tools can be connected. The device is a double effect rotating cylinder made in such a way that it has absolutely no influence on the balancing machine's measurements.This construction enables a strong, constant, adjustable force to be applied in both directions, as well as avoiding the need for costly, inaccurate tools with stop springs.

MEASURINGOur balancing machines can be equipped with VU or VUC instrumentation for static balancing only and VE or VEC instrumentation for machines with two correction planes. The particular characteristics of each kind of instrumentation are described in the prospectus concerned. The wide range of choice available means that these machines can be used to achieve the level of balancing most suitable to your requirements.

CORRECTION UNITVertical axis balancing machines are particularly suited to being equipped with suitable units for correcting the unbalance directly on the machine. The rigid, heavy structures of our balancing machines have no difficulty in bearing drilling or milling stress, which it unnecessary to fit the sort of extra load compensation devices on the correction unit that are sometimes used on soft bearing machines or older designed equipment. These devices are only useful if the tool used to fix the piece to be balanced is not particularity strong.

The rotating device for the milling operation can be controlled either manually or by means of a motor. During the milling operation, the workpiece-holding spindle is clamped to a turning table through a pneumatic device with clearance recovery. Other types of unbalance compensating units may be supplied on request. All machines equipped with drilling unit fit a special BM device for the automatic clamping of the spindle during the compensation. On request, an AT swarf extractor can be supplied, this consisting of an electroexhaust fan with 4 Kw motor power.
