Drum brake is widely used mostly in the rear wheels of small and medium passenger cars, performs breaking functions for driving and parking, and is also used in large trucks due to its high braking force. In the rear wheels of passenger cars, leading & trailing type drum brake having small capacity is usually used.
When driving an automobile, the braking function is performed by the mechanism that the piston of the hydraulic cylinder pushes two shoes to both direction and the lining attached on the shoes are pressed to the drum in order to generate friction force to perform braking force; when the lining is abraded, the lining and drum maintain constant gap by the motion of the mechanical adjuster. When parking an automobile, both shoes are pressed to the drum by the parking lever and friction force is generated to main the automobile in stopped state.
