Composition

One tablet contains : 
Amantadine sulphate · · · · · · · 100mg

 Indication

PK-Merz is used for the treatment of all symptoms of Parkinsosn disease such as rigor, tremor, hypokinesia and akinesia. Also for extrapyramidal symptoms, e.g. acathisia, early dyskinesia and parkinsonism induced by neuroleptic and similarly acting drugs and for vigilance improvement. 
Besides its neurogical action amantadine sulfate also selectively inhibits the in-vitro and in-vivo replication of type A influenza viruses during uncoating of the virus and is thus known for inhibition of viral influenza infections.

 Dosage & Administration

Unless otherwise prescribed by the physician at the beginning treatment 100~200mg/day for long-term treatment 200~400mg/day, to be taken after meals. 
In special cases, and under medical supervision, the dose may be increased to 500mg/day or even higher. The last daily dose should preferably be taken by late afternoon to avoid sleep disturbances in sensitive patients. It is recommended to raise the dosage slowly, especially in patients with pronounced cerebral degradation phnomena, in order to adjust it to the response of the individual patients. In the case of patients with renal maintenance dose once individual stabilization(=initial dose) has been achieved. 
PK-Merz tablets may be combined with other anti-parkinsonism preparations.
