Description: Gardenia jasminoides is a flowering plant of the family Rubiaceae. The fruit has been used in traditional Chinese medicine and is issued by the Ministry of health as edible herbal medicine. The fruit of Gardenia jasminoides contains some special chemical substances like gardenin, jasminoidin, which can help promote the normal insulin secretion, thus improving the diabetic condition. The fruit is also used as a yellow dye, which is used for clothes and food. The Gardenia jasminoides fruit is more widely applied to food and healthcare products, in which it is often in collocation with wolfberry, Poria, angelica, Spine Date seed, radix puerariae, Fructus Amomi and other raw materials. Besides, experiments result show that Gardenia extract can improve color and aftertaste of reconstituted tobacco.
