DRY LAMINATIING MACHINE

For dry laminating process, the bonding agent is dissolved in a solvent and is applied to the web by a normally gravure coating system. To evaporate the solvent, hot air is used through a drying chamber, and then the second web is brought into contact with the adhesive coated web in the Laminating unit which consists of a chrome plated steel and rubber covered counter pressure rolls. The chromed roll is generally heated to about 70-80 degrees to improve the bonding and transparency of the lamination. The bond strength is increased with time and gets strong enough for further converting after 24~48 hours. Full bond strength is actually reached after about 7 days. If drying of the bonding agent is not thorough, solvent molecules can remain in the adhesive and become laminated in the structure. These solvent molecules then migrate through the film and result in the smell of solvent ruining the food. In case Toluene is used, it can be harmful to human health. At DAE JIN, therefore, the drying chamber is very carefully designed with higher hot-air circulation.
