Introduction

Sludges excreted from water treatment plants run by local autonomous entities (e.g. offices of waterworks) and Korea Water Resources Corporation (KOWACO) can be reused as fill materials and raw materials of cement. The Convention on the Prevention of Marine Pollution by Dumping of Wastes and Other Matter took effect in 2007.

We have developed green technology to change these sludges, which are discarded at a cost of 25 billion won of public money annually, into eco-friendly deodorants.

It is expected that such deodorants will prevent environmental pollutions and save the money by removing various hazardous VOCs gases (ammonia, benzene, hydrogen sulfide, formaldehyde, methyl mercaptan, toluene, etc.) through physical, chemical, and biological absorptions, and further they will improve the trade balance since they can replace activated carbons which have been mainly imported.

Market volumes of the four divisions - fowl droppings fertilizer additives, agents for improving conditions of cattle sheds or pigpens, living deodorants, and substitutes for activated carbon - are estimated to be 21.4 billion won, 32.3 billion won, 124 billion won, and 300 billion won, respectively.
