SEJONG, Aug. 12 (Yonhap) — South Korea’s exports of farmed goods grew slightly from a year earlier in July on more shipments of processed products, the government said Wednesday.
Outbound shipments of agricultural and food products amounted to US$526.3 million last month, up 0.6 percent from the same month last year, according to the Ministry of Agriculture, Food and Rural Affairs.
The increase came from a rise in shipments of processed goods, such as instant noodles and tobacco, which more than offset a 10.6 percent plunge in exports of fresh foodstuff.
Shipments of processed products came to $440 million while those of fresh foodstuff, such as vegetables and fruits, amounted to $86.3 million.
By country, exports to Japan tumbled 12.7 percent on-year to $102 million while shipments to China, the world’s second-largest importer of South Korean food products, slipped 2.2 percent to $81.5 million.
On the other hand, shipments to the United States jumped 12.6 percent to $53.7 million with shipments to Hong Kong also spiking 18.9 percent to $32 million.
