What is Jangheung’s non-acid mother’s laver?
Non-acid laver is a kind of “pesticide-free” food in terms of agricultural and marine products.
There are 190 laver farms in Jangheung and most of them are a floating-type, but some are pillar-type. There are only floating-type laver farms in the waters off Dae-ri, Hoejin-myeon.

In the laver farms in Jangheung, they do not use even organic acid. They prevent the attachment of weeds by exposing lavers to the air by turning inside out the laver beds floating on the sea.
Lavers can survive the sun and wind, but weeds cannot. The laver farmers in Jangheung turns inside out the laver beds once every four days on average. They turn inside out the beds at dawn to let them be exposed to the air and return them into the sea in the afternoon. This job requires more workers and oil for a ship than spreading acid. However, the laver farmers in Jangheung make eco-friendly lavers for personal wellbeing, with the thought of giving healthy food to their family.
